Reimagining the Future of Social Studies: Highlights from the HISD Conference with Exploros
28 Mar, 2024
After an exciting weekend at the Houston Independent School District's (HISD) For Teachers, By Teachers Social Studies Conference, we at Exploros want to thank everyone who joined us. This year’s theme, "Cultivating Genius: Reimagining Social Studies Education," sparked lively discussions among educators, experts, and all of us passionate about teaching social studies in engaging ways. #CultivateGeniusthruPD
Being part of this event as exhibitors and presenters was a highlight for us. It was a great opportunity to meet so many of you, share our experiences, and explore new ways to make social studies more impactful for students.
Dr. Amy Williams, the Director of Curriculum Development at Exploros, shared her thoughts on the event:
"I found great value in delving into the history of the Houston Independent School District (HISD), particularly during the conference hosted at Booker T. Washington High School. The exemplary student leadership, dedicated educators, and insightful guest speakers greatly enhanced the professional learning experience."
This feedback from Dr. Williams underscores what makes these conferences so important. They're not just about sharing knowledge; they're about building a community that’s committed to improving how we teach and inspire our students.
As we prepared for the conference, we asked for your visions for the future of teaching social studies. The responses we received were inspiring and remind us of the importance of our work. These discussions are just the start, and we're excited to continue supporting the #cultivategeniusthrupd initiative.
We want to thank the Houston ISD K-12 ELAR & Social Studies Curriculum PD (@HISDELARSSCPD) team for organizing such an effective conference. It was a fantastic platform for professional growth and networking.
Looking ahead, we're eager to keep working together, sharing ideas, and finding new ways to engage students in social studies.
Thank you once again for making this event special. Let’s keep the conversation going and work towards an exciting future for social studies education.#Exploros #StudentVoice
