Exploros - Carter Blenden

👋 Introduce yourself, including your name, subject, and grade level.

My name is Carter Blenden, and I teach 8th grade U.S. History at Blanco Middle School in Texas. I’ve been in education for about nine years, and I also coach football and powerlifting. I’m passionate about helping students connect with history in a way that feels relevant and engaging, not just something they memorize.

📚 What aspect of Social Studies do you find most fascinating and enjoy teaching the most, and why?

I really enjoy teaching the foundations of American government and the events leading up to the American Revolution. It’s fascinating to see students start to understand how those early decisions still impact their lives today. When they realize history isn’t just the past, but something that shapes their rights and responsibilities, it really clicks for them.

🎉 Share a success story or memorable moment made possible by Exploros.

One moment that stands out is when I had students who typically struggle with engagement fully participating in an Exploros lesson. The combination of interactive content and discussion allowed them to contribute in ways they normally wouldn’t in a traditional setting. Seeing those students confidently share their thoughts and make connections was a big win.

💻 How has technology, particularly Exploros, empowered you as a teacher, helping you achieve your goals and enhance student outcomes?

Exploros has made it easier to create structured, engaging lessons while still allowing for meaningful discussion. It gives me real-time insight into student understanding, which helps me adjust instruction on the spot. It also keeps students actively involved instead of passively receiving information, which has improved both engagement and retention.

🚀 What's one effective teaching strategy or tip for boosting confidence and student engagement in Social Studies?

One strategy that works well is giving students opportunities to discuss and defend their ideas in a low-pressure environment. When students feel like their voice matters, they become more confident and engaged. Using structured discussions helps students build that confidence while staying focused on the content.
